Our school is voting on what we want to dress up as for SPIRIT DAY, Wednesday, June 22. All students who choose to donate to Fort McMurray Families will be able to dress up on Spirit Day. Red Cross will match all donations received by May 31. We will be collecting funds until Friday, June 3.
Our class has already voted and we split our votes between:
Dress up as your favourite character and
Crazy Hair/Hat Day!
Today we finished watching The Little Mermaid movie.
We discussed some of the differences from the play and will do more work around that tomorrow.
At lunch we had a fire-drill. It was weird at lunchtime, but we met Mrs. Nelson outside and we did really good! We then finished our lunches and headed out for our play time.
This afternoon, we watched the Spring Concert Dress Rehearsal for tonights performers. It is a great show and we hope you will enjoy it!
We will have our Spelling Review tomorrow! Please practice the words with your child.

We ask that you stay for the entire performance as to not disturb other performers! Thank you for your courtesy in this matter.
This morning we got to watch part of Disney's The Little Mermaid. We will finish watching it tomorrow. We are looking for ways that it matches the play we saw yesterday!
Scholastic Orders are coming home today and new order forms came home yesterday! The last order for this school year is due June 6th!!! I strongly encourage you to have a few books at home that your child can read over and over. Also, look into summer Library reading programs that offer prizes for reading! Reading over the Summer is VERY important!
Hot Lunch order forms are due Wednesday, June 1st for lunch on Friday June 10th. Please get your orders in.
I have discussed with the students that I will be absent a few days next week to take care of my husband after surgery. Please speak with your child about respect for substitutes. I am almost positive it will be the same sub the whole time.

The Calgary Board of Education is committed to providing students and staff with a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment that respects diversity and fosters a sense of belonging. With this in mind, the CBE is creating a system-wide Student Code of Conduct (Administrative Regulation 6005) with input from students, parents and CBE employees. This new code of conduct will apply to all CBE schools, and beginning in the 2016/17 school year, individual schools will no longer have their own codes of conduct. All CBE students are expected to abide by the new system regulation, which will be posted to our Administrative Regulation page http://www.cbe.ab.ca/about-us/policies-and-regulations/Pages/Administrative-Regulations.aspx.

Happy Friday!
I hope you enjoy a beautiful weekend and enjoy the sunshine when it's out!
Today we did a special 2D and 3D shape project. We filled in all the vertices and sides for 2D shapes and all the vertices, faces and edges for 3D shapes. Ask your child about a particular shape. Their homework this weekend is to find all the different shapes around their house or wherever you are. If you can bring it in that would be great (we already have a toilet paper roll though ;) Or just take a picture and email me at milnelson@cbe.ab.ca
We worked hard this afternoon on a special project for a special person in our life. I hope you Mom's have a wonderful Mother's Day! Your children love you so much and are so excited to give you your gift!
We met with our Grade 3/4 Reading Buddies this afternoon and had a lovely time reading with them.

Students are coming home with a Tree! It is to Celebrate Arbour Day! Grade 1 is the best because we get free books and free tree seedlings! Enjoy your tree and plant it somewhere you will be able to enjoy it in a few years!

Parent Council Message -
“ School Council is in great need of volunteer drivers and collectors to help with this Saturday’s bottle drive. Proceeds will go to fund the Grade 6 Farewell evening. If you are able to volunteer, please contact Meghan Cooper (403) 613-1516 or meghanbuchanan@shaw.ca. If you are unable to volunteer but have bottles/cans to contribute, you are welcome to drop them at the school parking lot on Saturday, May 7 between 9 am & 3 pm, or leave a marked bag on your doorstep for pickup. Thank you!”
Library Day tomorrow! Please help your child return their books, so that they can get new ones!
Today in Music we practiced our actions for our Spring Concert. We cannot wait to share with you our beautiful songs.
We talked about keeping our brains healthy. The most important thing to do when we feel sad, angry or worried, is to talk with someone. A friend, a teacher or our family! While it is ok to feel these feelings, we cannot let them overtake us and replace the good things in our lives.
We did ANOTHER 3D shape today. Ask me what it is called. I'm sure we can find LOTS of this shape in our houses.
Please remember to return your child's field trip form with the $5. Also, please include your child's name on the form.

Hats on for Mental Health TOMORROW!!!!!
Don't forget to wear your favourite hat tomorrow to show support for Mental Health.
Scholastic Orders came home today! They are due back on the 12th. Get ready for Summer with lots of good books to read at home.
A Field Trip Form for Storybook Theatre is coming home today! Please fill it out and return it as soon as possible. They must be returned by Monday, May 16th. The cost for this field trip is $5. We will need a couple volunteers as well.
Today we made another 3D shape. See if you can find it in your home! I think you will be able to find LOTS of this shape!
We had an impromptu lesson on the Kermode Bear (it is a white black bear). They live on the Northern Coast in the rain forests of BC and are very rare. Students were very interested by this. Research at home to learn more about this unique bear!

What a gorgeous day we had. We had gym outside and we started to work on football skills. We practiced throwing the ball. We should be outside all week (as long as the weather is nice). Please make sure your child is wearing running shoes and is dressed for the weather.
Wednesday is Hats on for Mental Health! Students may wear hats to school to show support for mental health. We will do some discussion around this, but please make sure to chat with your child regarding mental health.
