What a wonderful day! We loved Maya the Bee! Thank you so much to Calgary Motor Dealer’s Association for covering the cost of theatre admission! We had a wonderful time! We learned about working together and being ourselves! We will continue to do work around this movie in each of our classrooms!

This afternoon we drew a picture of Maya, or Willie, or Sting, or the Queen. Tomorrow we are going to write in our journals.

This afternoon we also read for a really long time. Mrs. Nelson saw that we were loving reading with our friends and we were being so well behaved that she didn't want to break the silence. But she eventually had to. It is a wonderful sight to see young children fall in love with reading and not want to quit.

Tomorrow is Early Dismissal. School is over at 11am. Please still send a snack with your child as we still have snack time.

Important Dates:
Monday, February 29th - Happy Leap Year AND Fun Lunch

Valentine's Day

Hi Parents,

Unfortunately I am unable to give you a list of the students in Room 5, but you can take a peek at our Raz Kids website if your child forgets a name or two. Follow this link for your convenience:

https://www.kidsa-z.com/main/Login

Students do not  need to hand out Valentines by any means. If you would like to hand out Valentine's but need some assistance with anything, please let me know!

Thank you so much,

Michelle Nelson
This afternoon we made Valentine's bags so that tomorrow we have somewhere to put them. We decorated them with markers and pencil crayons. We used stickers and drew animals and hearts. One student drew a time machine (AT AT) that blew out hearts! We have some great imaginations in here.

We are still working on our Gingerbread Man comics, but I think we will be all finished tomorrow!!! We worked on our Rainbow poem and did a cutting and pasting activity with it.

Mrs. Nelson was forgetful and didn't give out the red envelopes yesterday for Chinese New Year, so she did it today. Ask your child about it!

Keep spelling those words at home. We will review all of them next week.

Remember to help your child bring back their green folder and home reading yellow folder.

Library Day is switched to tomorrow (Wednesday) please make sure you help your child put their books in their bag to bring to school.

No School Thursday, Friday or Monday!!! Happy 5 Day long weekend!!!!

Another Experiment!!!

This morning we did another experiment with Mrs. Nelson. Ms. G's grade 2 class joined us for this one. We have 3 pieces of white bread in 3 different bags. In the first bag, Mrs. Nelson wore a glove and put a piece of bread in. The second bag Mrs. Nelson used hot soap and water to wash her hands and then put a piece of bread in a bag. The third piece of bread we all got to touch with our dirty hands and then we put it in a bag. We will see which one starts to grow mold first. It may take a few days or a few weeks to see the difference.

This afternoon we continue work on our 5 Senses booklets, went to Music and then read with our Grade 3/4 buddies.

Important Dates:

February 11th & 12th - No School - Teacher's Convention
February 15th - No School - Family Day

Thursday's Experiment

This morning we worked on a poem. Mrs Nelson mixed up the lines so we had to put each line of the poem in it's proper order.

In Gymnastics we continued our stations. We are learning different poses and how to control our bodies.

We had Library this morning and are bringing home a new book or an overdue notice.

This afternoon was so exciting!!! Mrs. Nelson had a surprise hidden behind a box in our class. We had to use our sense of hearing to start. But then we used our sense of smell, sight, touch and finally taste! Ask me what we had! We brainstormed all about our secret item and how it related to each sense.

Soon we will be celebrating our 100th Day of Grade 1!!! We will have lots of fun activities to do that week.

Special Note - We will hand out Valentines on Wednesday February 10th if you choose. You do not need to. I am not allowed to give you names of students in my class, but check out Raz Kids!

Important Dates:

February 11th & 12th - No School - Teacher's Convention
February 15th - No School - Family Day
