Today we did some taste testing! We tasted sweet, sour, salty and bitter! We brainstormed food that would go into each category. It was delicious and icky all at once :) We also tasted a potato with our noses plugged...it sure didn't taste like a potato! It tasted more like an apple. Then we tasted an apple with our noses plugged. It was more juicy. We learned that our sense of SMELL works with our sense of TASTE to help us identify foods!

Some Parent Council Fundraiser forms were meant to go home, but they were missed by the substitutes this week. My deepest apologies. They are in their bags now and should be making their way home. Please check for them!


Remember to read, read, read! Earn those Trading Cards. For every 100 minutes you read you get 1 trading card. We add our minutes at school too! There are 24 trading cards in all!

Tomorrow we are supposed to wear a Pink or Red shirt to show that we will stand up against bullying.

Mrs. Nelson will not be here tomorrow, her Nan (grandma) passed away, so Mrs. Nelson is taking a day off. We talked a little bit about this.

100 Days Smarter!!!

Today we did a lot of 100 activities! We made 100 links into a chain, we graphed 100 items, we made 100th day headbands, we wrote a story about what we would do with $100 dollars....some of us are going to Disneyland with $100 dollars :)

This afternoon we said Good-bye to Mrs. Brinson! We are sad to see her go to a new school, but happy for her new adventures!

Kung Hei Fat Choy

We did a dragon dance and sang a Chinese New Year song in the office today! It was fun! We hid behind our dragon masks!

We started READING! GIVE IT A SHOT!!! For every 100 minute we read, we will get 1 Harvey the Hound trading card! We can earn 24 trading cards for a total of 2 400 minutes of reading! Today at school we read for 50 minutes!

We celebrated another classroom birthday with silly videos!

Tomorrow we are celebrating our 100th Day of Grade 1! Lots of fun activities to do tomorrow!

Today I was supposed to send out a letter from Mrs. Brinson, but when I was reminded it was too late to hand out to all students. I apologize and you will for sure get the letter tomorrow! This is completely my fault! The letter is regarding Mrs. Brinson taking a new position at Coventry Hills School and her last day with us at Beddington Heights will be this Friday, February 20th, 2105! We will miss her dearly, but wish her well in her future!

Today we began to celebrate Chinese New Year! Gung Hei Fat Choy! Tomorrow we will continue some celebrations!

What A Day!

Today seemed to fly by! We practiced rating ourselves on a scale from 1-10. Mrs. Nelson learned this at Teacher's Conference and then we talked about our weekend. We did our journal's and then we practiced our new spelling words! We are going to do 10 words this week! Mrs. Nelson thinks we are pretty smart and will be able to do it!

Then we worked on literacy centres and some math and then it was lunch! After lunch we had Music, PE and Byblos Bakery! We made pita's with all 4 food groups! And that was that!

Happy Valentine's Day

Byblos Bakery on Tuesday! Please return your yellow form so each child can eat the delicious and healthy food!

We celebrated today with lots of "LOVE" related activities! We did journal about what we love in Grade 1 and lots of adding and subtracting with some colouring for Math! It was a wonderful morning! This afternoon we read some Valentine story's and then handed out our Valentines while we watched a Charlie Brown Valentine. Then we got to look at all our cards! And of course we had a awesome Dance Party!!!! This is one of our favourite things to do in Grade 1.

It was sweet to hear the students saying thank you to each other for their Valentine's! What a wonderful afternoon it has been! I hope you all have a wonderful 5 day weekend! I will miss you!

Next week we are celebrating Chinese New Year and 100th Day of School! It is a busy week!

Desk Clean Up Day

Aye yi yi! Our desks were sure messy! But they should be nice and clean now....mostly!

We had a wonderful day filled with: Math on rulers, sounds in Science, sight word practice, skipping in PE, music and strory time! It was a fun filled day!

Tomorrow we are celebrating Valentine's Day with lots of Love related activities in Math, Reading and Writing! We are unable to send home a class list of the students in our class, but your child should be able to remember most of them. We have 13 boys and 11 girls! Please, no candy for students!!!

Please return Library Books tomorrow (Wednesday). We will try to squeeze in a quick Library time because we will miss ours on Thursday.

Jump Rope for Heart

Today  during Calendar on the Smartboard, a giant ear popped up! It was so silly!

We had an assembly for Jump Rope for Heart! We watched skipping and then in PE we got to skip too! We are bringing home important information about winning prizes!

We made Valentine Bags this afternoon. REMINDER!!! You do not have to send Valentines, but if you choose to do so, you should have one for each student in class. We have 24 students. We are unable to send home a class list, please have your child remember names, or make them out to "My Friend". Or they can quickly address them at school on Wednesday morning!

We read Pete the Cat Valentine's Day is Cool! Ask me about it!

Secret Words: Pillars of Care

BINGO!!!!

Today in Science, we learned more about sound. We got to play Sound Bingo and we won pencils, erasers or bookmarks. It was fun!

We had library this morning and we are getting so good at choosing books and reading them quietly. Mrs. Nelson gave us some free time in the Learning Commons! We played with the puppets, lego, log house, we drew pictures and some of us read our books quietly to a friend. It was a good time!

In PE we played a cool dodgeball game with 4 teams! It got a little crazy!

In Math we created adding sentences and shared them with our classmates! It was so much fun! We are just have loads of fun in Grade 1!!!

Please check the lost and found post! We still have a couple items left --- the shoes!!!

Today we finished up with our Touch Centre. There were some icky and sticky things. Some were pointy and bumby, while others were smooth and hard. We will find out later this week what was inside. We are also going to start a hearing centre and then smelling and wrap it all up with a class tasting activity! We sure love Science!

We are going to celebrate our 100th Day of Grade 1 soon! February is so busy! We are also celebrating Chinese New Year, a birthday and an in-class field trip!

We had a regular day today! We practiced our spelling words, did literacy centres, wrote all about ourselves and Who We Are! We went to PE and we wrote in our journal about Groundhog Day! For the record, Balzac Billy did NOT see his shadow, so hopefully that means that Spring is coming early!!!! We can only hope!

Happy Groundhog Day

Today we learned a little about Groundhog Day!!!! We sang a fun song and went on a hunt for words with the long /e/ sound. We learned that the /e/ sound can be spelled 'e' 'ee' or 'ea'. Ask me about it tonight.

My homework is to find out if Balzac Billy saw his shadow or not! I hope he didn't!

We ran lots of laps in Gym today, it was sooooo fun! During centres Mrs. Nelson created a Science centre. Some of us got to do it today! The rest of us will finish up tomorrow or Wednesday!
