Our Terry Fox Run is coming up on Wednesday September 30th at 12:45. Please consider donating a Toonie for Terry to support the Terry Fox Foundation. Please send donations in by Wednesday Sept. 30th. Our class has been watching videos about Terry Fox. We are learning that he had to go through a hard time with cancer. He had his leg cut off, amputated. He wanted to run across Canada to raise money for Cancer Research. Although Terry had to stop his run because the cancer spread to his lungs, we can help Terry accomplish his goal by participating in our School Terry Fox Run.

Talk with your child about who they could run for. Some will run for Terry and some will run for Family members or pets.

This morning as we were practicing our Alphabet and numbers, someone asked if we could sing the alphabet backwards! So Mrs. Nelson found a silly video and it went really fast 3 times backwards. It was called "I know my C B A 's." We loved it, but we needed to sing the song properly, just to make sure we didn't forget!

It was Magazine Monday and we got to look through Chickadee and Chirp magazines for our afternoon reading time. We had a substitute in gym and we had Music class as well.

Swimming Forms are due back with the $25. We start swimming THIS THURSDAY!!!!! Students should wear their swimsuit to school and bring under clothing to change into.

Today Mrs. Nelson showed us a video on: "How To Take A Selfie!" Kids gave us tips on how to take a selfie. Then we got to draw a picture of us as if we took it from a phone. Then we did some writing about ourselves.

An important permission form is coming home today. We are going Swimming starting on October 1st. Lessons will take place at Thornhill Pool. Please fill out the forms and send them back with the payment.

Please return Library books if you haven't done so already

We practiced for the Terry Fox Run today. We think our school is having it on Wednesday, September 30th. Parents and Guardians are welcome to join us.

Please make an appointment to meet with me this Thursday afternoon or evening or meet with me on Friday during the day. I am excited to talk with you about your child.

Please make sure you have handed in your Chick a dee forms, even if you said No! We still get free prizes for all returned slips.

Today was Fidget Friday. That means we get to play with Play-Doh and make anything we want. Sometimes Mrs. Nelson will ask us to make something, but today we got to be creative. It was a lot of fun!

Today was also the first day that we had every student in our class. No one was absent. But there were A LOT of coughs and sniffles. Please review with your child to cough or sneeze into their arm. And then to use hand sanitizer or wash their hands. We want to keep everyone healthy in Room 5!

Mrs. Nelson chose today as a day to give out pencil's or bookmarks to kids who brought back their green home folder and put it in the proper spot right away in the morning. Some of us didn't get a prize because we forgot to put it in the bin. Better Luck Next Time!

We celebrated a Birthday in our Class and watched a silly birthday video!

I have sent home some Meet the Teacher forms for those I have not yet received. These forms help us to plan specific programming for your child and help greatly with me being able to get to know each student and how their parents/guardians see them!

Today we wrote about our Student of the Day....it was Mrs. Nelson today. We learned all about her and then had to write or copy 3 sentences.

Today is "Think outside-of-the-Box Thursday".
Mrs. Nelson gives us all the exact same picture. Then we have to use our imagination to create something that no one else would create! It took a little while today, but we think that it will get a lot easier in the future.

In PE we run laps and Mr. Sadowsky usually writes a number. Today there were 4 dots, so we had to stop and count them before taking off.

Meet the Teacher is next week. I believe that sign up starts this evening. Please sign up to meet with me and discuss all about your child!

Thanks :)

Word Find Wednesday

I still have a number of Meet the Teacher forms missing. If you need one, please email me at mldavy@cbe.ab.ca and I will send another one home with your child.

Today we were able to use a highlighter to find words in a word search. We are going to do these each week. They help us with spelling and reading.

Today in Music, we sang Mr. Rattan a special Birthday song. We also made him a sign.

We continued to work on our Number Animals this morning. We are looking at a number and seeing how it can be created into an animal.

Tomorrow is Library Day, so please remember to bring back your Library books if you haven't already!

Just a quick reminder, that Scholastic Book Orders are due next week on Wednesday September 23rd. By purchasing books from the book order, we can get useful books and other resources for our classroom. If you have any questions, please ask.

Thank you
Good Afternoon Parents and Family,

Mrs. Nelson wants to apologize for not doing our blog yesterday. She promises that she will do her best to write a blog everyday!

Yesterday we had Magazine Monday! We got to look through some magazines in class instead of regular reading books. If you have any kids magazines at home that you are willing to donate to our class, we would gladly appreciate that.

Yesterday was our first time meeting our Grade 3/4 Reading Buddies. Some of us got the same buddy we had last year! We will meet with them every "Day 1" on our schedule. We will read together and dance together and do fun crafts together! We are excited for this year long friendship!

Today was our First Hot Lunch day. We apologize for not reminding you yesterday!

We also welcomed a new student into our class today!

Forms:
Digital Citizenship (missing a few)
Meet the Teacher (please send in as soon as possible)

Today in Grade 1 we cut out ducks with numbers on them and were to glue them in order from 1 to 10. Some of us were GREAT at this.

We had a Welcome to School Assembly! It was so fun, but we had to sit for a long time. We did really good!

Some of us are still learning to wait for instructions to go outside after we eat lunch, please talk with your child about safety and listening to the lunchroom supervisors.

Today was Fidget Friday and Mrs. Nelson let us play with Play-Doh to make letters we have been working on.  We finished our Friday like every Friday in Grade 1 will finish....with a DANCE PARTY!!!!

Forms:
Meet the Teacher forms - please return
Chickadee Magazine forms - please return even if NO (we will get prizes)

Please make sure to send your forms in with your child in their green folder! They know where to put it in the morning.

Happy Wednesday!

Tuesday, September 8, 2015

We are still pretty tired in the afternoons, but we are getting much better.

We had Music and PE today. Mrs. Nelson also bought a lot of Play-Doh for our Fidget Friday activities. Ask me about how many she bought.

Please watch for important notices to come home and return them as soon as possible.

Have a great Tuesday!!!!

Thursday, September 3, 2015

WELCOME!!!!

We had a GREAT first few days of Grade 1!!!! We are a little tired in the afternoon, but we are getting used to the long days!

We have met our Music Teacher, Mr. Rattan and our PE Teacher, Mr. Sadowsky! We are already learning so much in Grade 1!

Please stay posted here for lots of information about what we are doing in Mrs. Nelson's class.

Our daily homework is to bring our green folder home and return it to school each morning.

Mrs. Nelson taught us that it's ok to make mistakes at school. Ask me why this is ok!
