Goodbye January!

We have our report cards coming home today! Please check your child's backpack for this document. The envelope needs to come back to school, signed by the child's guardian/parent. Thank you so much for your cooperation with this!

Today was a wonderful day! We had our spelling review, worked on our Gingerbread Man phonics comic strip, and continued gymnastics in PE.

This afternoon we worked on our Art Folders, had music and organized ourselves a little bit. And of course we finished the week with our traditional Dance Party! It is a great way to keep the kids active and happy!

Lockdown Today!

This morning we had a new teacher come in to teach us about Gymnastics. We learned a bunch of new poses that we played Statue Tag with! We are excited to learn more.

It was Fun Lunch today and boy was it fun!!!! If you were absent today we have saved your lunch in the office.

Mrs. Nelson's sister had a baby last night and she showed us a picture. He needed a little help to breath but then later on we saw another picture and he didn't need help anymore. He is so cute!

This afternoon we continued to work on our Social Studies and who is in our school. We also had a Practice Lockdown! Most of us stayed quiet during the lockdown and we had a lot of questions.

5 Senses!!!

This afternoon we learned about our 5 Senses in Science. We will be learning about each sense over the coming weeks. We will have experiments that will help us to understand each sense and we may even get to do centres about each sense!

After we discussed the senses Mrs. Nelson taught us a song in American Sign Language (ASL). It was Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Ask your child if they remember any of the signs.

Then we went to Music and then Buddy Reading. It was a wonderful afternoon.

Today we worked on Student of the Day and we are almost finished everyone in our class! I wonder how we will practice our printing next? Some predictions from the students are:

This morning just flew right by! We did calendar, read for a little bit, went to PE, had a snack and then some very deserving free time! We have worked so hard this week, Mrs. Nelson gave us 20 minutes to draw pictures, play Spot It and play Race to 100. Now it's Dance Party time!

Remember to read each day with your child. Reading everyday is very important for their learning.

This morning Ms. Cokar (the Kindergarten teacher) came into our class to observe our Math lesson. Then Mrs. Nelson went to her class to observe her lesson. While she was gone we worked with Ms. G's grade 2 class and Mrs. Hayes on Literacy Centres. It was a fun morning!

We are bringing home new library books today. Some of us forgot ours, so please help your child remember to put them in their backpack!

This afternoon, we continued to work on our books about ME! We talked about places we have been and where we would like to go!

Tomorrow (Friday) is early dismissal! Students are out at 11am!

Some of us shared our Cold Lady skits with the class. The rest of us will be able to share tomorrow!

We did Math with dominoes today! We are starting to add numbers together! We drew the domino in our books and then we added all the dots together. We are also continuing to practice our SUBITIZING!!!!

In Music we made patterns on our dry/erase boards and then clapped them out.

Today we started MISSION IMPOSSIBLE in PE. It is a bit tricky to get through all the snakes and electrical wires! (there aren't any real snakes or live wires ;) ) You have to make it through lots of obstacles without talking. If we touch an obstacle we have to start over at that station.

Please make sure I am wearing a t-shirt underneath a hoodie, because I can't participate if I am wearing a hoodie! Girls need to bring an elastic for their hair and no earrings or necklaces!

This afternoon we started a book all about ME!!! We are each doing a book about ourselves! This afternoon we also had a parent volunteer! She was so nice and helpful.

Tricky Breadsticks!

This afternoon we were talking about Healthy Foods that we eat and how we eat foods that are all colours of the rainbow! Then Mrs. Nelson told us that she tricked her kids into eating lots of cauliflower this weekend! She made "breadsticks" out of cauliflower. And all the students decided that we should post the recipe!

All you need is cauliflower, 4 eggs, 3 cups of grated cheese, salt and pepper, oregano and garlic!!!
It is a yummy recipe (tested by Mrs. Nelson's 3 kids)

TIP: Mrs. Nelson didn't blend the cauliflower, she just cut it up really fine!

We had our Spelling review today and Mrs. Nelson promises that after she is finished report cards she will make sure to send home the spelling review's and the yellow cards to practice. She is sorry, it has been a very busy time!

Today we celebrated a friends birthday in class, and her mom sent a goodie bag for each of us! That was so nice of her. We do not encourage this, but I thought I would send them home and let you choose if your child can have them or not.

Please help your child to remember to bring their yellow home reading folders to school so they can exchange their books and keep on reading!!!! (also so you don't get bored with the same book ;)

Teddy Bear Art!

Today we reviewed some of our phonics sounds and songs with Ms. G's grade 2 class. It was a fun time.

Ms. Binks worked with us this morning on our Comic Strips and then read us a story about a crab!

We had Library today and most of us are bringing home a new book. If your child forgot to return their book, have them return it tomorrow and they can get a new one for the weekend!

This afternoon we did Science, but Mrs. Nelson made us think it was Art! We are continuing to learn about Opaque and Transparent! Ask your child what these two words mean!

We had music this afternoon as well and we wrote patterns on the board.

Today in Math, Ms. Binks joined our class and we created our own number puzzles! We were given a number and had to show different ways to create that number. Some ways were: dice, ten frame, tally, 100 chart, hands, number word, toes, an addition sentence and more! We then cut our number into puzzle pieces and had to have a friend put it back together! It was a fun time!

We continued to work on our Cold Lady comic strip. We are doing excellent!

We had half Math and half Literacy centres this afternoon. It was a full afternoon.

This morning we did our calendar time with Ms. G's grade 2 class and then this afternoon with Ms. G's class we worked on a comic strip of the story that we read yesterday. There were 6 things that happened! Ask me what one of them was!

We did our Spelling words this morning and should have a copy of the words in our green home folder.

Some students do not have their green home folder or yellow home reading folder. Could you please help your child find these and put them in their backpacks. Thanks :)

Chilly Thursday!!!

We had a few students today without proper winter clothing. Please ensure your child has mitts/gloves, a toque, snow pants and a jacket to keep them warm during our recess and lunch time outside! Thanks for supporting your child!

We worked on making numbers today. We got to choose a number between 6-12 and then we had to show that number a bunch of ways. We will do it again, with higher numbers.

We have HOMEWORK!!!!!

Today, some of us didn't finish our Season booklet. We only have to do ONE page! That's Winter! We only have to finish the Winter page! Complete the sentences and draw a picture that matches. Please help your child with this homework, but they should know exactly what to do!

Today was a long day! We read with our Raz Kids, we had an awesome gym and we are bringing home new Spelling words. Please practice every day! The new words are:

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I can't believe it is 2016 already! This school year is just flying by! I hope you are all well rested and ready for whatever lies ahead for you.

I had an enjoyable break and was able to spend lots of time with my kids, hubby and family and friends! I hope you were able to as well!

Tomorrow we start at 8am. It will be a long day getting back into routine and settling in for the rest of the school year!
